Thinking about a nose job? Consider this non-surgical option.
A rhinoplasty, or “nose job,” is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed today. As a central part of your face, your nose plays an important role in enhancing and harmonizing your facial features. Even small, subtle changes can make a significant impact on the overall balance and look of your face.
What is a liquid nose job?
Also known as an injectable rhinoplasty, a liquid nose job involves the precise injection of a dermal filler into different parts of the nose. Topical numbing cream is applied first, as well as ice to help alleviate any discomfort. To sculpt the nose, we use hyaluronic acid filler, which is a naturally occurring sugar molecule in the body. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes, and you can resume normal activities that same day.
Am I a good candidate?
Injectable rhinoplasty can hide a bump on the nose, make the nose appear straighter, and can even make the tip appear more refined. It can make a remarkable change for people seeking more projection in their nose (like the patient shown in the photos). This is also a great option for people who have had a surgical rhinoplasty in the past, but still want to make some changes without going under the knife again.
When to opt for a surgical rhinoplasty
If you have problems breathing from your nose, a very crooked nose, or want to make your nose much smaller, an injectable rhinoplasty may not be the best option. A surgical rhinoplasty is needed to fix any breathing or functional problems, and although well-placed filler can give the illusion of a smaller nose, it may not suit everyone. Also, results last 1-2 years, after which maintenance sessions will be required, so if you are looking for a permanent solution, surgery is your best bet.
What’s the downside?
Typical of these types of procedures, there are risks such as swelling, bruising, and skin discoloration. The nose is a very delicate area, and injection into the wrong site can cause serious complications. That’s why it is extremely important that your physician has extensive knowledge of nasal anatomy.
